Paul Saginaw's advocacy for increased wages has earned him a trip to the White House. The Zingerman's co-owner will be honored today in Washington, D.C., with other business owners across the country as they receive Raise the Wage Champions for Change awards.
The awards will be presented to nine activists, advocates and business owners who the Obama administration says have taken action to raise wages for working men and women around the country. ...
President Obama made a visit to Zingerman's Delicatessen during his April trip to Ann Arbor, where he spoke to University of Michigan students about the minimum wage, student debt and other issues.
This is Saginaw's second minimum wage-focused trip to Washington this year. In January, he made a trek to the nation's capitol to lobby for an increase in the minimum wage.
Saginaw joined business owners from Colorado, New York, Maryland and Washington, D.C., to lobby U.S. Secretary of Labor Thomas Perez. The business owners talked about the positive impacts of paying employees a higher wage than the government minimum of $7.25 per hour. All of Zingerman's employees earn more than that. ...
